Default Is espn going to far by the Rodgers and Favre circus they've created?

It's funny to me that they are the ones that first reported both stories. Rodgers fan comments and a couple days later Favre's comeback rumor. I haven't seen anything with solid proof of either story. Rodgers comments could have been twisted and Favre may have an itch to play but he said when he retired he probably would. My thoughts are ESPN will stop at nothing to make a story and have no integrity for doing so. They are falling in the ratings to those that have the NFL network and other programs that offer more in-depth reporting. ESPN is a second rate program and are just trying to create B.S. to get people to tune in. The guy that reported the Favre story said he didn't see Favre wanting to come back. So why report it then?no brain- Mortensen his self said he didn't see Favre actually wanting to come back. He just said like anyone, he may have the itch to play again. Having the itch and wanting to are two different things. Right after this report came out Favre said it was only a rumor. All this report did was feed the fire without any proof.

ESPN always blows everything out of proportion. They have to hype things up to make news.

A couple thoughts...Chris Mortensen is very close to Favre, for whatever reason. So by that alone ESPN has a leg up.But, one really has to wonder if Favre has cold feet. I'll bet he does want to play, but the $12 million he's owed is a huge problem, as is not getting on with the future for the Packers.ESPN does fuel fires on lesser stories but there may be something to it.Favre could be manipulating ESPN to gauge the public's interest in a comeback.EDIT: I finally saw more in depth coverage. Mort is pretty straight, so your theory that ESPN is pushing this story down are throats me be accurate.Look what they've been doing with Adam Jones. He drops Pacman, and ESPn breaks into broadcasts with it.I don't disagree with your assessment, but I think there's more truth to it than Favre is letting on. Some reports have him asking for his release.

That's ESPN. Just like the first guy to respond says, they blow things out of proportion just to make a big story. I'm so sick of them doing this I don't even watch Sportscenter anymore. I get all my sports news from the internet.

ESPN is essentially a bunch of rubes that don't get "out" much -- beyond the northeast empty/nowhere corner of the Connecticut... (since they're 45-mins out of Boston just GUESS why the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots get more attention.. because the TV crews, writers, producers are ALL homers for them!!)... and of course, they tink Favre = football. It's a low-cost, easy story.. doesn't entail fatboys getting off their rearend.. no ones visiting Favre to interview him, etc. etc. -- so, they can sit & speculate. Something like CNN's been doing for over a year with the "election coverage" of sitting and talking about what's online...

This circus is no different than the Joe Montana vs. Steve Young rivialry with the 49ers. The difference between Rodgers and Favre drama and the Montana and Young drama is back then the Internet was not as alive and well plus you did not have text messaging and cable. This circus is splattered all over the Internet, cable sports channels, and text messaging discussions are going on. So anything that can be said may be blown way out of context or out proportion to get a story.I remember the Montana vs. Young rivalry and it was stated on the news that Montana had a party at his house and Young came. Steve came through the door and Joe Montana's kids asked him is this whom we suppose to hate, referring to Young. That was so over the top and that was in the late 80s or early 90s.

I don't even visit espn.com because espn is so horrible. It's all about the show, and little to do with the content.

ESPN creates stories and then drives them into the ground. I thought a lot of that crap would stop when that nitwit, Dan Patrick thankfully left. It didn't.

THANK YOU! i can't believe how many people followed all these phony stories. i'm sorry, but you cannot truly believe a story that has no quotes and has nothing but "sources." who are these sources espn keeps reaching? they are fictional characters. it's not that Favre is wishy washy and can't make up his mind, it's that espn makes it a huge drama, then people who read these articles or tune in blame the whole dilema on Favre. it's retarded. espn plays that whole "i talked to this guy, who knew your brother, who is friends with that guys sister, who knew this guy, and that guy, etc" and finally, "that person said Joe Namath is planning a comeback." hard to explain, but that is the idea is what espn does to make a story. these fictional made up "sources" is the biggest way to bust whether the story is for real or not. espn makes a story out of nothing.the best part is, Favre doesn't even open his mouth! first, his retirement ceremony. "I am officially retiring from the NFL."then, the Dave Letterman Show. "well, maybe when training camp begins, i might start to miss it." that doesn't mean he's coming back, it just means he might miss the game!last, after Mortenson's article, Favre said, "It is just a rumor. i am retired."
